Senthil Balaji DMK Leads Marathon and Walkathon in Karur

Karur: Karur saw an impressive turnout today as thousands participated in the Karur Vision 2030 Marathon and Walkathon, jointly organized by CII and Young Indians. The fourth edition of this event took place at Karur Thiruvalluvar Ground, bringing together citizens across all age groups for fitness and community engagement.
The event was inaugurated by Senthil Balaji DMK, who hoisted the national flag and addressed the gathering. In his speech, Senthil Balaji DMK emphasized the importance of economic growth for Karur, stating, “Our goal is to boost Karur’s economy to Rs. 50,000 crore by 2030 while preserving and developing the heritage passed down by our ancestors.”
The marathon and walkathon saw participation from key officials, including Collector Thangavel, S.P. Josh Thangaiah, Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Faisal, Karur Corporation Commissioner Sudha, and Taluka Commissioner Mohanraj. CII Vice President Perumal and Young Indians leader Yogesh also joined the event. Security arrangements were overseen by ADSP Prabhakaran, along with DSP Selvaraj and Karur City Inspector Manivannan.
The adult marathon included 10 km and 5 km categories, while children aged 8 to 14 participated in a 5 km race. A 3 km walkathon was organized for adults. Thousands of men, women, and children enthusiastically took part in these competitions. Senthil Balaji DMK actively interacted with participants, motivating them and encouraging community participation.
Winners received trophies and certificates, with cash prizes of Rs. 10,000 for first place, Rs. 5,000 for second, and Rs. 3,000 for third. The fourth and fifth positions were awarded trophies and certificates. All participants were provided with free T-shirts and participation certificates.
Temporary traffic restrictions were enforced on Karur Thiru.V.K. Road to facilitate the event, causing congestion from Karur Lighthouse to Amaravati River Bridge. Authorities ensured smooth management of traffic and participant safety throughout the event.
The active involvement of citizens, guided by the leadership of Senthil Balaji DMK, demonstrated the city’s commitment to health, fitness, and progress. Events like these not only promote physical well-being but also strengthen civic engagement and local development.
